SIPHONOPHORA is a modular, sculptural light system inspired by siphonophores: deep-sea organisms composed of many specialized units functioning in perfect symbiosis. It translates this natural principle into a work that is both technically rigorous and materially expressive.
SIPHONOPHORA draws inspiration from siphonophores, deep-sea organisms that exist not as singular bodies, but as collective superorganisms formed by specialized interconnected parts. Adapting their principles of modular growth and symbiosis, we developed a lighting system where each individual element contributes to the existence and balance of the entire structure.
Each SIPHONO module combines a ceramic lampshade and a stainless steel structural system. The lampshades are produced through a textile-ceramic process developed in our atelier, allowing for a balance between softness and structural clarity. The metal components are engineered to enable rotation, extension, and flexible reconfiguration.
We spent many months designing, engineering, testing, and refining SIPHONOPHORA as a flexible, universal lighting system capable of adapting to any space.
Each component of the system is essential to the integrity of the whole. Its modular logic enables endless configurations, allowing the lighting system to function both as a single unit and as an expansive installation. The structure can rotate, extend, and branch out, adapting to different spatial contexts, opening up limitless possibilities for how light can exist in space.
